Connect Contact Form 7 to GetResponse

ChimpMatic connects Contact Form 7 to GetResponse, so the people who fill in your forms land in the right list. The GetResponse integration needs one API key, a list per form and a few mapped fields. It takes about five minutes to set up.

GetResponse integration for Contact Form 7 with ChimpMatic

What the GetResponse integration needs

MAX accounts use a separate API, so the integration does not support them yet.

Before you set up the GetResponse integration

The service uses a few terms of its own, so here is what to expect before you connect anything.

  • Lists are called campaigns. In the API, a list is a “campaign”. So when ChimpMatic asks for a campaign, pick the list your contacts should join.
  • Custom fields belong to the account. You create them once, and every list can use them.
  • New contacts join a queue. Each contact is accepted first and added a moment later. That means a new contact can take a minute to appear.
  • One address per list. An email address can join a list only once. ChimpMatic reports a repeat as “already subscribed” instead of sending it again.

Get your GetResponse API key

  1. Log in, click the Tools icon in the top menu and open Integrations and API.
  2. Select the API tab.
  3. Click Generate API key, give it a name such as “ChimpMatic”, and copy it.

A new key appears only once, so copy it before you close the window. Treat it like a password.

Connect Contact Form 7 to GetResponse

  1. In WordPress, open Contact, Contact Forms and edit your form.
  2. Click the Chimpmatic tab and choose GetResponse.
  3. Paste your API key and connect. After that, your lists load on their own.
  4. Select the list that new contacts should join, then save the form.

Map your form fields

First, point the email field at the contact email address. Then map the visitor’s name to the contact name. After that, you can map up to four more fields to your custom fields. For example, a phone field can fill a “phone” custom field.

Because custom fields live at the account level, the same mapping still works if you move a form to another list. The field mapping guide explains each option.

How the GetResponse integration handles opt-in

The list’s own settings decide the opt-in, and the GetResponse integration never overrides them.

  • Single opt-in: the contact joins the list as soon as the queue is processed.
  • Double opt-in: a confirmation link goes out first. The contact appears in the list only after they click it.

You change these options in the list settings. You can also add a required consent checkbox to your form, so people who leave it unticked are never sent. Read how double opt-in works across providers.

Test your GetResponse integration

  1. Save the form, then submit a test entry with an inbox you can check.
  2. Wait a minute, because new contacts go through a queue.
  3. Next, open Contacts, filter by your list and look for the new contact.
  4. If the list uses double opt-in, click the confirmation link first and then look again.

Do this on day one: add a honeypot or CAPTCHA to the form. Otherwise, bots will fill your list with junk.

Other ways to connect Contact Form 7 to GetResponse

GetResponse publishes its own WordPress plugin, and general integration plugins cover it too. However, they work quite differently.

Method Cost Per-form lists Best for
ChimpMatic Lite (this guide) Free Yes Different forms feeding different lists, with mapped fields
GetResponse’s official plugin Free No, one list One signup path, plus GetResponse’s other WordPress tools
Automation services such as Zapier Paid, per task Yes Multi-step workflows across other apps

The official plugin adds Contact Form 7 submitters to the one list you chose in its settings. Also, each form needs a special [gr4wp_checkbox] tag, and every custom field needs its own tag in the form. That suits a single signup form. But if different forms should feed different lists, a per-form tab is simpler. Automation services also work, although each entry then passes through a third party.

Common problems, and the fixes

  • The contact does not appear right away. New contacts go through a queue, so wait a minute. Then check whether the list uses double opt-in.
  • ChimpMatic says “already subscribed”. The address is already on that list, so the first copy stays.
  • Custom fields stay empty. Map each form field to a custom field in the Chimpmatic tab, then submit again.
