ChimpMatic connects Contact Form 7 to Moosend, so new form submissions join the right email list. The Moosend integration needs one API key, a list per form and a few mapped fields. It takes about five minutes to set up.
What the Moosend integration needs
- A WordPress site with Contact Form 7 active
- The latest ChimpMatic Lite, which is free
- An account with at least one email list
Before you set up the Moosend integration
One Moosend detail matters more than the rest, so read this part first.
- New subscribers only. The subscribe call in the API overwrites an existing subscriber. It can blank out fields you did not send, and it can even bring back someone who unsubscribed. So ChimpMatic checks the list first. If the address is already there, it leaves that subscriber untouched and records the entry as not sent.
- Each list has its own fields. Custom fields belong to one email list, so the fields you can map depend on the list you pick.
- The list decides the opt-in. The service applies the opt-in setting of the list, and ChimpMatic does not override it.
Get your Moosend API key
- Log in and click More in the menu bar, then Settings.
- In the menu on the left, click API key.
- Click Copy, or click Generate API key if you need a new one.
Treat the key like a password. Anyone who has it can manage your lists.
Connect Contact Form 7 to Moosend
- In WordPress, open Contact, Contact Forms and edit your form.
- Click the Chimpmatic tab and choose Moosend.
- Paste your API key and connect. After that, your email lists load on their own.
- Select the list that new subscribers should join, then save the form.
Map your form fields
First, point the email field at the subscriber email address. Then map the visitor’s name to the subscriber name. After that, you can map up to four more fields to that list’s custom fields. For example, a company field can fill a “Company” custom field.
Values arrive exactly as typed, so a zero stays a zero and long answers are not cut short. Because fields belong to one list, check your mapping again if you switch lists. The field mapping guide covers the details.
How the Moosend integration handles opt-in
You pick the opt-in type in each list’s settings in Moosend, and the Moosend integration follows it.
- Single opt-in: the new subscriber joins the list right away.
- Double opt-in: Moosend sends its own confirmation email. With soft double opt-in, the subscriber joins either way. With strong double opt-in, only confirmed subscribers count.
To change it, open Audience, Email lists, choose the list and edit its settings. You can also add a required consent checkbox to your form, so people who leave it unticked never reach Moosend. Read how double opt-in works for each provider.
Test your Moosend integration
- Save the form, then submit a test entry with a fresh address you can check.
- Next, open the list and look for the new subscriber and the mapped fields.
- Then submit the same address again. The Moosend integration leaves the existing subscriber exactly as it was.
Do this on day one: add a honeypot or CAPTCHA to the form. Otherwise, bots will fill your list with junk.
Other ways to connect Contact Form 7 to Moosend
Moosend has no Contact Form 7 plugin of its own, so every route needs a connector.

General plugins such as Advanced Form Integration or Noptin can also send CF7 entries to Moosend. However, check how they treat subscribers who are already on your list, because a plain subscribe call overwrites them. Automation services work too, although each entry then passes through a third party.
Common problems, and the fixes
- An entry is marked as not sent. The address was already on the list, so ChimpMatic left that subscriber alone on purpose.
- Custom fields stay empty. Map each form field to the list’s custom fields in the Chimpmatic tab, then test with a new address.
- A subscriber shows as unconfirmed. The list uses double opt-in, so the person still has to click the confirmation link.
FAQ
Does Contact Form 7 work with Moosend?
Yes, with a connector. Contact Form 7 has no Moosend module, so ChimpMatic adds the list choice, the field mapping and the consent option for each form.
Can the Moosend integration update existing subscribers?
No, on purpose. Updating would risk wiping fields or resubscribing people who left, so it only adds new subscribers.
Can different forms feed different lists?
Yes. You set up the Chimpmatic tab per form, so each form can use its own list, or even another provider.
