Field mapping tells ChimpMatic which Contact Form 7 field feeds which subscriber field at your email provider. Map them once in the form’s Chimpmatic tab and every submission arrives with the right data in the right place: names in name fields, phones in phone fields, ready for personalization and segmentation.
How mapping works
- Edit your form and open the Chimpmatic tab.
- Connect your provider and select the destination audience, list, or group.
- For each mapping row, pick a Contact Form 7 field (by its tag, like
your-name) and the provider field it should fill. - Save, then submit a test entry and check the subscriber record at the provider.
The email field is required: it is how every provider identifies the subscriber. ChimpMatic Lite maps the email plus up to four additional fields per form. ChimpMatic Pro expands the mapping for forms that capture more.
What the fields are called at each provider
- Mailchimp calls them merge fields: FNAME, LNAME, PHONE, plus any custom merge fields on your audience. Setup guide
- Brevo calls them contact attributes: FIRSTNAME, LASTNAME, SMS, plus your custom attributes. Setup guide
- MailerLite calls them subscriber fields: name, last name, company, phone, plus custom fields. Setup guide
- Klaviyo calls them profile properties: first name, last name, organization, phone number, plus custom properties. Setup guide
Create the custom field at the provider first; then it appears as a mapping target in the Chimpmatic tab.
Mapping tips that save debugging time
- One field, one meaning. A single “full name” form field mapped to a “first name” merge field puts full names in first-name greetings. Use separate first and last name fields when your emails personalize by name.
- Match formats. Phone and date fields at providers often validate format; make sure your form collects what the field expects.
- Map only what you use. Every mapped field is sent to the provider on each submission. Keep the data flow as small as your marketing actually needs; see what is sent where.
- Test with real values. Submit the form yourself and read the subscriber record at the provider. That one check catches nearly every mapping mistake.
FAQ
Why is a mapped field arriving empty?
Almost always a tag mismatch: the mapping points at a form field that was renamed or removed. Re-open the Chimpmatic tab, re-select the current field, save, and test again.
Can I map checkboxes or dropdowns?
Yes. The selected value is sent as the field’s content. For multi-select fields, make sure the provider field accepts the combined value.
I need more than four extra fields.
That is the Lite limit per form. ChimpMatic Pro expands field mapping along with advanced consent controls and subscriber tools.
